Good Design Is not convenience
Sometimes good design is inconvenient.

Problem

The hyper-convenience of our devices leads to a lack of focus, we get caught easily by efficient algorithms leading to mental clutter.

Trend

As phone addiction rises, people seek a solution, craving purposeful tech for intentional digital interactions that prioritize what truly matters.

Practice

I explored these possible benefits through stints of phone separation documented experience’s:

Interaction

I wanted this project to be *satisfying* and immediately jumped in to a rapid prototyping session.

I tested potentiometers, buttons, and hybrids. Then designed simple models to house these controls.

Learnings

While these designs were definitely *satisfying* they felt like home products and were missing an aspect of portability.

Maybe they interactions did not need physical controls to feel intentional and purposeful. I created a mood board to explore this idea.

Reassessed Mood Board:

With this new inspiration I decided to look into touch controls with light interaction's to achieve intentional and purposeful interaction.

These effects felt peaceful and important. They helped direct the purpose of these interaction's:
